Joan of Arc? Ophelia? Oscar? Or the Little Match Girl…? How can I accept the blood they shed with this unworthy body?
Real tragedy, fake tragedy, fictional tragedy --For us in the "now," what is a genuine "tragedy"?
Five actresses in tragic situations despair at their absurd circumstances. They resort to embellishment and sometimes even self-justification, raising their voices to tell the tale of their misfortune. This performances interrogates the relationship between the self and the world through a structure that portrays three separate dimensions of tragedy: tragedy that occurs in the real world, fake tragedy created by self-absorbed exaggerations of personal misfortune, and fictional tragedy that occurs on the stage. What is tragedy for those of us living in this current moment? And how can humanity confront the absurd?
- Concept -
I am all alone
Just phenomena scattered here and there around the world
I have no relation to the world
From here, I can clearly see your situation
I can clearly see that the world is distorted
Just what are you really and truly thinking?
I want you to tell me
With vaguely remembered lines
I fling the flowers you just bought me to the floor
Dancing a slovenly dance with my body still in a sulk
About the blood the women spilled
Somebody somewhere voices off-the-mark comments
I am watching all the way
Until the play just begun tapers off into two dimensions
But even so, there will be no tragedy here
Only my body bleeding, that's all
